In Islam, the supplicant bows towards Mecca, Saudi Arabia. In Judaism, the supplicant bows towards Jerusalem, Israel. In case you think this custom is new, it is already mentioned in the Jewish Mishna, which was written down 400 C.E., 200 years before the Koran was written.
